Overview
Experience Italy’s most famous road cycling event – Maratona dles Dolomites. It is one of the biggest and most passionate bike races on Earth. Located in the heart of the Dolomites the Maratona dles Dolomites loop through either four, six, or seven passes in the Sella Mountains.The combination of stunning scenery, sporting demands, and cycling history make this Italy’s number one Gran Fondo. Maratona dles Dolomites. The 2016 event will be the thirtieth year it has been held. The first Maratona was held in 1987 as part of the tenth anniversary celebrations of the Alta Badia-Raiffeisen Cycling Club with 166 riders. From 2004 the number of participants had to be limited to 9,000 riders and lotteries were introduced to draw participants.
Courses
The event offers 3 routes of varying difficulty: 55km, 106km and 138km (Gran Fondo). The
Gran Fondo course includes a total of 7 iconic Dolomiti passes. Total altitude gain for the 138km Gran Fondo ride is 4,190m. All three courses lead the riders through the Dolomite Mountains and over
roads, where legendary rides by great champions of the Giro d'Italia have taken place. The event is
broadcast live on Italian television.
